NWSL bans four coaches for life
The National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) recently announced that four of its coaches have been given lifetime bans from the league following an investigation into sexual harassment. The investigation revealed that the coaches had acted in a manner which was deemed to be inappropriate and unacceptable, resulting in their dismissal from the league. This decision serves as a strong reminder that any type of misconduct will not be tolerated in the NWSL.
The four former NWSL coaches that were permanently banned from all participation in the league include:
- Paul Riley,
- Christy Holly,
- Rory Dames and
- Richie Burke
The league also handed down two-year employment bans to former Utah Royals FC coach Craig Harrington and former Gotham GM Alyse LaHue.

In a statement, NWSL commissioner Jessica Berman said the actions "are fundamental to the future of our league, especially as we build a league that strengthens our players' ability to succeed and prosper on and off the pitch."
"A new NWSL begins today," NWSLPA president Tori Huster said in a statement. "No sanction will ever be enough to undo the harm that too many players endured. By taking our power back, players have achieved a complete and total overhaul of the NWSL ecosystem, from the league office to club ownership and staff, with new policies and systems in place to protect player safety."
